BROAD helped to raise $17k as part of the Vinnies CEO Sleepout

At BROAD our mission is to help brands unlock the power of women and this is exactly what happened last night when the MD of our parent company Mamamia Women’s Network, Kylie Rogers participated in the 2017 Vinnies CEO Sleepout.  Via the Mamamia Women’s Network we helped raise $17,000 for some of the most vulnerable people in our community.  As of last night the event has raised close to $5,000,000 to help put an end to poverty and homelessness in Australia.

When people think of homeless individuals, they typically imagine men 40 years and older living rough but the reality is that every night there is 105,000 Australians who find themselves homeless, 17,000 of whom are children under 12 (with 400 of those sleeping on the streets).  60% of homeless people are under 35 and 44% of homeless people are women.  You can see Mia Freedman comment on the issue here.

Kylie has reflected on the experience today saying:

“Last night I joined over 1,400 CEOs across Australia to take part in the 2017 Vinnies CEO Sleepout.
In doing so, I gave up many of the familiar comforts that are often taken for granted. My warm, comfortable bed was replaced with cold, hard concrete. My safe and secure home with a cardboard box. A hearty, homemade meal with a humble cup of soup.
It was a cold, uncomfortable and restless night but I would not trade a minute of it because it gave me a very small glimpse into the harsh reality that over 105,000 people are faced with every single day.
No one deserves to live this way. Especially not the 17,000 children who make up part of this figure.
